작가 한호의 작품 의도나 주제 형식은 작가의 정신적 세계에 기인하며 필연적인 경험의 산물일 것이다. 그는 유년의 기억을 역 추적 하고 동심의 향연과 빛의 인상을 절대적으로 표현해 내려고 한다. 그것은 동심 속의 꿈이 만들어내는 자연과 우주 이야기로, 태양, 달, 바다, 호수, 그리고 물위에 떠 있는 두 개의 달과 해 수많은 별들로서, 물위에 떠있는 그 모습은 마치 한호 자신의 소년시대 동무가 되어준 달, 해, 별들 그리고 빛의 부서 질 듯한 파장의 노래로서, 바로 그러한 것들이 빛의 이야기를 통하여 표현되어 지고 있는 것이다. 또한 이러한 이미지들은 시간과 공간을 넘어 자신의 이동경로에 따라 그 지역성을 내포한 다른 새로운 빛의 이야기를 만들어 내고 있다.

 

우주의 공간 속에 낙서처럼, 별들의 하모니는 날개 잃은 천사의 동화 같은 여운이 담겨 있는데, 그와 같은 달과 해, 별들의 노래 속에는 작가가 머문 흔적과 자신의 자화상들이 희미하게 보여진다. 한국, 파리 그리고 뉴욕, 북경 등에 머물며 그곳에서 작가자신이 표현하고자 했던 달과 해의 흔적은 그곳만의 풍경과 느낌의 다름을 나타내는 것으로, 바다, 호수, 우물 속에 들어 있는 달들과 태양 들을 특징적인 재료로 표출시키고 있다. 한국에서 표현된 달과 빛의 연작들은 역사의 파편적인 흔적과 기억의 여운들로서 소박한 한 소년의 꿈을 통해 보여준 세상의 이야기들로, 슬프고도 아름다운 이야기를 미적 조형언어를 통해 표현해 내고 있는 것이다.

 

희망의 빛을 갈망 하는 자아의 지속적인 절규의 노래, 그것이 작가 한호가 표현 하려 하는 ‘잃어버린 시간’을 추적하는 이유일 것이다.

 

작가는 내적 성숙과 미적인 표현들을 통해 관객들에게 카타르시스의 공간을 제공하며, 동시에 참여의 공간으로 인도하는 것이다. 이와 같이 빛의 7차원적 이야기와 함께 긴 여행을 떠나길 원하는 것이다. 마치 태고와 미래가 같이 있는 곳, 바로 그곳으로………. 바로 이러한 이야기들이 존재 할 것이란 불확실한 꿈에 대한 위안의 표현들이 그로 하여금 영원히 붓을 들게 하는 이유일 것이다.

Hanho created the Eternal Light installation based upon his childhood experiences and the nature of human reason that appears as conflict. The theme of death, resurrection and the soul’s journey to the other side are expressed via an installation consisting of a monumental ship from which a mysterious un-earthly light emanates. The light rays are synonymous to souls likened to the lingering hopes and dreams in the mental image of the departed.

 

Through this installation artist Han expresses not only the living soul but also the phenomena that seem to provide eight-dimensional space to the dead body becoming spirit. The floating objects are the anxieties felt in life, and the lights represent the carrying away of the mind’s hopes and fears. Struggles inherent to all humans are shown through the ship metaphor departing on its long journey to the unknown. The reality of social chaos and corruption are also present in the ship. But the dreamer of light still hopes that they will be weighed but lightly.

 

For his monumental installation, and minimalist composition Han has used contemporary precepts to create a site-specific work. But Han also seamlessly blends his own cultural roots into the work by using a material that is both ethereal, light, and flexible; Korean Hanji paper.
