신록의 계절에 문화예술마을 헤이리에서 현대공예를 조망하는 <Between Art and Craft 2009>를 개최하게 됨을 대단히 기쁘게 생각합니다.

 

이번 전시는 헤이리의 다섯 갤러리(갤러리 MOA, 리&박 갤러리, 리오 갤러리, 아트팩토리, 포네티브 스페이스)가 공동으로 마련한 전시입니다.

 

본 전시는 그동안 각자 차별화된 전시공간 성격을 구축해 온 갤러리들이 연합으로 기획하여 금속·도자·목칠·섬유·유리 등 다양한 공예를 각 전시공간에 맞게 장르별로 집중있게 작품을 감상할 수 있도록 구성하였습니다.

 

우리나라는 옛 부터 자연의 재료를 바탕으로 독창적인 공예미를 창조해 왔으며 한국 공예의 아름다움은 세계인의 감탄을 자아내기에 충분하리만치 그 우수성을 인정받아 왔습니다.

 

Between Art and Craft’ 라는 제목에서도 알 수 있듯이 본 전시는 전통과 현대를 아우르는 현대공예의 확장된 조형세계를 한자리에 조망해 보는 데 기획의도가 있습니다. 이는 공예야말로 자연과 인간, 전통과 현대, 다양한 주변 매체의 융합 등을 통해 창출되는 21세기 예술의 새로운 패러다임(Paradigm)이라고 예견하기 때문입니다.

 

그러므로 이번 전시를 통해 실용을 바탕으로 한 전통공예에서 오브제 조형공예에 이르는 다양한 현대공예 작품들을 만나볼 수 있으며 이는 회화, 조각과는 또 다른 공예미를 느끼게 해 줄 것입니다.

 

끝으로 혼신을 다해 제작한 작품을 출품해 주신 작가들께 진심으로 감사드리며 이 전시를 계기로 앞으로도 더 많은 갤러리 연합전이 헤이리 내에 개최될 수 있기를 기대합니다.

Opening the exhibition <Between Art and Craft 2009>

 

We are very pleased to hold <Between Art and Craft 2009> exhibition at the cultural art village Heyri in this season of fresh verdure. This exhibition provides an insight into the contemporary crafts.

 

The exhibition is co-organized by five galleries-Gallery MOA, Lee & Park Gallery, Lio Gallery, Art Factory, Ponetive Space- located in Heyri Art Valley.

 

This exhibition is composed of various crafts such as metal, clay, wood lacquer, fiber, and glass. Each gallery space according to its own distinctive character is showing craftworks of one genre.

 

Korea has long been creating unique craft art with the materials taken from the nature and Korean art crafts have been recognized and admired by the people around the world for their beauty.

 

As it can be inferred from the title of this exhibition, ‘Between Art and Craft’ is intended to take a view of the expanded world of formative art, which combines traditional and contemporary art. Crafts are foreseen as the new paradigm of art in the 21st century, which is created by a fusion of nature, human, tradition and modernness, and various surrounding media.

 

Therefore, this exhibition opens an opportunity to meet diverse modern craft works which range from traditional crafts with practical elements to formative art objects. Such works would allow the audience to discover the aesthetic sense hidden in the craft works which is different from that of painting and sculpture.

 

Lastly, we would like to sincerely thank the artists who have put every effort into producing the artworks for this exhibition. We hope that this exhibition brings many more united exhibitions in Heyri in the future.
